What Is the NASDAQ RSI?

The NASDAQ RSI — or Relative Strength Index — is a momentum oscillator that measures the speed and magnitude of recent price changes in the NASDAQ 100 index (ticker: NQ futures / QQQ ETF). Developed by J. Welles Wilder, the 14-period RSI is the most widely used setting for both intraday and daily NASDAQ charts. RSI values range from 0 to 100.

NASDAQ RSI Overbought & Oversold Levels

A NASDAQ RSI reading above 70 is considered overbought — recent gains have been unusually strong and the index may be due for a pullback or consolidation. Conversely, an RSI below 30 signals oversold conditions, where the recent decline may have been excessive and a bounce or reversal is possible. In strong trending markets the NASDAQ can sustain extreme RSI readings for extended periods.

Bullish & Bearish RSI Divergence on the NASDAQ

RSI divergence is one of the most reliable signals in technical analysis. A bullish divergence occurs when the NASDAQ makes a lower price low but the RSI makes a higher low — signaling weakening downward momentum and a potential reversal upward. A bearish divergence occurs when price makes a higher high while RSI makes a lower high, warning of fading upside momentum and a possible decline. This tool automatically detects and displays both types of RSI divergence on the NASDAQ 100 in real time.
